Today we look back on our debut at the London Design Fair in September 2017, where we launched our Readywear collection – and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be back at the fair this year!
Last Spring, while researching, developing and manufacturing bespoke collections, we began planning our first display at the London Design Fair. It would be where we launched Readywear, a collection of 36 key uniform pieces that can be tailored to an individual business’s needs. Readywear is the culmination of years of uniform design experience, creating a ready-to-wear range covering everything from aprons to spa trousers. The collection responds to the current demand for a design aesthetic that is modern, practical and can be customised to support multiple brand environments. It’s a pick ‘n’ mix range that can be tailored for small, medium or large businesses, designed in London and manufactured across Great Britain and Europe.
The London Design Fair at Old Truman Brewery in East London instantly felt like the perfect place to launch Readywear, amongst some of the world’s leading artists, designers and craftsmen and women. This part of the capital is where Field Grey’s roots are, too, so it felt right that this huge next step would begin there.
After spending a lot of time designing the perfect capsule collection, which could be curated easily by new customers, we tested different colour-ways and materials. In the meantime, we planned how we wanted to present the collection, and who we wanted to engage with.
In July 2017, Field Grey collaborator Toby Mower began to produce the stand that would exhibit the collection. The stand represented the core values of Field Grey, with its clean, effective design.
In August, we shot the collection with our friends at Photographic Assignments.
September quickly arrived and the fair was a huge success. We spent four days showcasing the collection, hosting apron-making workshops, meeting with contemporaries and arranging meetings to explore the benefits of Readywear with new clients.
We’re very excited to be appearing at the fair again this year. We’ll reveal all the details of our 2018 London Design Fair exhibition and how we’re expanding Readywear very soon!
