Our obsession with uniform-inspired fashion continues at a fast pace; today we’re captivated by Flow the Label’s SS17 collection, inspired by the original Stepford Wives.
The Ukranian-Belgian womenswear label was established in 2014 by sisters Veronika and Viktoriia. They’ve shown at a number of fashion weeks since, and they describe their style as a ‘wise mix of classic motives, often with a retro twist.’ Their SS17 collection came to our attention when we discovered the theme – Stepford Wives – and the ‘uniform’ of these Conneticut-based creatures (and we’re talking the original, 1970s wives, not the candy-coated Nicole Kidman versions).

Deriving inspiration from art is at the heart of Flow the Label’s work and the aesthetic of the 1975 film features heavily in this particular collection. The result is a range of floor-sweeping dresses adorned with embroidery and ruffles, as well as loose-fitting blouses and cold-shoulder designs.

We’re particularly struck with the use of apron-like shapes and workwear details, used on constructed denim and high-waisted flares. This literal translation of the traditional, mid-century pinafore apron is our favourite garment in the collection:
